Dead After Dark is a melodic progressive metalcore band from the Okanagan, BC. Their sound combines heavy progressive riffs, melodic and atmospheric elements, breakdowns and a mix of clean and harsh vocals.

​

The band originally started with Lisa and Lance, who met in 2020 through a shared love of metal and started writing music together soon after. Their first collaboration, “Detox,” was released in 2021 and later re-released under Dead After Dark in 2025. What started as a two-person project has since grown into a four-piece, with Mitchell on drums and Jack on guitar joining Lisa on vocals and Lance on bass.

Fronted by Lisa, Dead After Dark moves between soaring melodies, unexpected vocal moments and aggressive screams. She writes the band’s lyrics and vocal melodies, often using contrast to bring something melodic or almost deceptively light into much heavier material. She is also behind much of the band’s artwork and visual direction.

Lance has been at the core of Dead After Dark’s instrumental writing since the beginning, writing the original instrumental material before the band expanded into its current lineup. With a background in music from Selkirk College, he’s meticulous about the details and is also the brains behind much of the band’s technical and live rig setup. While he writes across instruments, bass is where he feels most at home on stage.

Mitchell brings a lot of personality and creativity to the drums, heavily influenced by his love of progressive metal. He’s also a prolific songwriter and that creativity comes through in his playing — expressive, energetic and never just there to keep time.

Jack brings a strong technical background to guitar and is equally comfortable with rhythmically challenging material and lead work. With a background in jazz and music production, his influences stretch from Van Halen to progressive metal, bringing both technicality and melody to the band’s sound.

With four members now bringing their own influences and ideas into the writing process, Dead After Dark continues to evolve while keeping the contrast that has always been at the centre of their sound — melody and heaviness, atmosphere and aggression, vulnerability and intensity.

At its core, Dead After Dark is about making music that feels honest. The lyrics are personal and emotional and the music is meant to be something you can connect with, whether you need to scream it, sing it or just feel it.
